June 2014 - Newsletter

Summer is here!  Finally!  So, “drivers – start your engines!”

Mike, the owner of the Admiral’s Inn, went all out for us on Wednesday.  Not only did he block off the parking meters on the street for “Corvette Only” parking, he had special signs made up to hang all around the restaurant, welcoming us.  He also provided free copies of the Thousand Island Sun newspaper, which had an article about our club and a photo of some of our Vettes.  Needless to say, we all had a great time.  Mike sure knows how to make us feel welcome!

Our first ice cream cruise of the season, May 28th, was a huge success.  We had 10 Vettes cruise on up to J and B in Carthage.

We are open to suggestions for more ice cream cruises.  Just email an officer with your idea.  Spur-of-the-moment (actually a couple of days) is just fine.

The date for our annual breakfast at Tin Pan Galley is set for Saturday, July 12th.  We will  caravan from Davidson’s Chevrolet on outer Washington St., Watertown, at 8:30AM, to arrive at the restaurant by 9:00AM.  If you’ve never been to Tin Pan Galley for breakfast, please think about joining us.  You’ll be glad you did!

If scheduling permits, we are also looking into a similar outing at the new Johnston House in Clayton, in August sometime.

Tom Cheney and Darren Smith are still trying to organize a trip to the Corvette Museum in September.  If anyone is interested, please contact either Tom or Darren.

The July dinner/meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23rd, at the Ramada Inn in Gananoque, Ontario.  The cost is $24.95pp-Canadian-plus tax & tip, for a buffet dinner.  Details will go out in a separate e-mail. Betsy Jacobs is the contact person: bjacobs002@twcny.rr.com or 315-482-4610

We have booked Bonnie Castle for the August dinner/meeting, Wednesday, August 27th.  Details will go out later.  Betsy Jacobs is the contact.

The Capital Corvette Club of Ottawa has invited us to join them for their weekend in Lake George, September 26-28, Fri.-Sun.Bill & Melodee Doull and Ron & I went last year and we had a terrific time.  Their social secretary will be reserving a block of rooms shortly, and will reserve extra for our club.  Mark your calendars – you don’t want to miss this one!

Just a reminder --- If a member is sick or has surgery, or has a death in the immediate family, and would like to share that information with the other club members, please let one of the officers know.  Sometimes we learn of these things by the grapevine, and we don’t know if the member really wants the “notoriety”.  Thank you.
